![]() ![]() MyPaint is notable for its compatibility with Wacom graphics tablets (and similar devices), including both pressure and tilt-sensitivity, as well as it’s support for both conventional and unconventional brush types. The new MyPaint 2.0.0 release succeeds MyPaint 1.2, released back in 2017, and brings a stack of new features and improved tools with it. You might give it a try, if such ropey characteristic is your goal.Open source artists should check out the latest release of MyPaint, as it scored a substantial update this weekend. It is a concoction of the most undesirable binding oils I’ve ever seen in oil paint (Poppyseed Oil, Safflower Oil, and Sunflower Oil, to be precise), but it dries fast (probably because of added driers), even with those atrocious oils as part of the ingredients, and, for some reason, it is a bit more “ropey” than many other commercially-made white paints. The closest thing I’ve found, in terms of this stringey characteristic is a Titanium White paint made by Pebeo, called Fragonard. It seems to be only a characteristic of hand-mulled Lead Carbonate. I know of no other paint that has this characteristic–not even commercially-made, White Lead paint. Such paint was allowed to “string” off the tip of the brush or knife, as it was allowed to “drizzle’ onto the painting wherever such an effect is desired. It is claimed that Rembrandt achieved most of his fancy, highlight-detailed, brocade work, and jeweled effects by the use of this ropey, white lead, oil paint in a manner to that displayed in that video. This ropey-ness of White Lead paint is unique to hand-mulled, white lead paint, and is not only a unique property of such paint, but is highly-prized as a characteristic, the likes of which artists such as Rembrandt utilized to the utmost in his work. ![]()
